What is teachertube?

TeacherTube officially launched on March 6, 2007 goal is to provide an online community for sharing instructional videos. Educationally focused, safe venue for teachers, schools, and home learners. It is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. Teachers can post videos designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill.

Teachers, students, and schools utilize the power of the read/write web for learning. To overcome barriers they created a site and all that’s left is get started trying to help. TeacherTube community members are a major part of the evolution of the site. Members are encouraged to not only upload educationally relevant videos, but also to make constructive comments and use the rating system to show appreciation for videos of value to one as an educator or learner. Users also have the ability to preserve the integrity of the site by flagging inappropriate videos.

TeacherTube staff review flagged sites and will remove any inappropriate posts. With commentary and discussion through messaging and responses, the quality of this resource will only increase. The service is free for everyone. The community can help, it can become more interactive and engaging for all teachers and learners.

How can I use teachertube in the classroom?

1. You could have students develop a video and then have them upload it to teachertube.com. After they upload it, they can view their classmates' videos and comment on each video.

2. You could prepare a video for a lesson and before the lesson, show the video to the students.

3. Students could use teachertube.com to keep in touch with the teacher on a weekly basis; for example, the teacher could upload a weekly video reinforcing the lesson on the previous week and give reminders to students about homework.

4. In a social studies class, you could have your students portray famous scenes from American History. They could record it on video and upload it to teachertube.com.

5. Students could teach a concept/skill that they find to be easy to demonstrate. Then, they can upload it to teachertube.com, so they can be able to teach it to the world.

6. Can you think of how YOU could use teachertube.com in YOUR classroom?

On your own time (like, who was that anymore, right? lol)....

Browse through these URLS. Notice how it is immediate to take note that we can bring back FUN in the classroom! Lets show our students that we can be real and make mistakes. This will in turn, allow your students to be more free thinkers, with the understanding that there projects won't be perfect. It's the effort that makes a difference, not the quality.

And always remember...as teachers, we all have the power to make a DIFFERENCE!

I loved this presentation. My 4th grader is doing a bio on Taft so he will use this sight to find something to show his class.
